Conveyancing Assistant/Paralegal

This vacancy has arisen in our Residential Conveyancing Department in the Mathew Street, Liverpool City Centre office.

We are looking for an experienced (1-2 years) conveyancing assistant to fulfil the following duties.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Fee Earning Work

  1. Assist with a caseload of property related matters, including purchase, sale, re-mortgage and transfer of equity.
  2. Manage all client work in accordance with procedures and quality standards contained within the Office Procedures Manual
  3. Ensure that all client work is progressed expeditiously and that the client is regularly informed on progress and on costs.
  4. Use the portals for conveyancing such as, Lender Exchange, HMLR, LMS etc
  5. At all times, exercise high standards of client care in a professional and pleasant manner.
  6. Ensure the confidentiality and security of all documentation and information of the Firm and clients.
  7. Comply with the SRA Principles, Standards and Regulations together with the Accounts Rules.
  8. Comply with CQS Standards.
  9. Maintain professional and clear communications with colleagues.
  10. Ensure good working relationships with external organisations, experts and other suppliers and contacts.
  11. Ensure that all letters, memo’s, attendance notes, other documents and all correspondence received from clients are maintained within the Proclaim case management system.
  12. Ensure that concluded matters are archived in a timely manner.

Compliance – ongoing

  1. Comply with all the policies, procedures and processes as contained within the Office Procedures Manual.
  2. Comply with the SRA Principles, Standards and Regulations together with the Accounts Rules.
  3. Ensure compliance at all times with the requirements of the CQS Practice Management Standards (CPMS).
  4. Ensure compliance with procedures for Sanctions.
  5. Ensure that the Fraud Risk Assessment screen is completed on Proclaim for all matters.
  6. Ensure that all completed matters are closed on a timely basis (4 weeks after post completion worked finished or sooner).
  7. Ensure that all breaches are reported to the relevant person/s.

Learning and Development

  1. Take responsibility for all your own learning and development requirements.
  2. In conjunction with the Firm, comply with relevant training requirements. 

Business Development

  1. Be active in promoting the services of the Practice and its image and ethos.
  2. Regularly contribute to articles for external publication and the Firm’s website and blog.
  3. Be active on LinkedIn to raise the profile of the Firm.

To carry out any other duties and responsibilities that may be required.

PERSONAL INJURY FEE EARNER

Purpose of job

To run a mature caseload of litigated Fast Track and Multi Track Personal Injury cases at our Liverpool Mathew Street office.

Responsibilities

Running of litigated Fast Track and Multi Track files as required, including

  • Interviewing and updating clients
  • Drafting statements
  • Preparing instructions to experts and counsel
  • Drafting legal documents
  • Valuing general and special damages
  • Making applications
  • Advocacy at hearings
  • Instructing experts
  • Negotiating settlements
  • Concluding matters at completion of legal work including costs and billing

 

Taking initial instructions from clients and advise


Communicating with clients, opponents, experts and counsel

 

Process new claims including via the MOJ Portal and be fully conversant with the
CPR and procedures under the Portal scheme


Arrange and explain conditional fee agreements and other methods of funding,
payment of disbursements and cost update letters


Attend court hearings as required both with and without counsel


Undertake own administrative tasks as required, including

  • Filing
  • Preparing briefs and trial bundles
  • Typing

Corresponding and maintaining accurate files and other useable records

 

Carry out all tasks accurately and efficiently within internal and external guidelines
and to deadlines

 

Comply with all internal policies and procedures in accordance with the practice’s
office


Comply with the SRA Handbook 2011


Fully and actively contribute to the effective operation and development of the
Personal Injury department

 

Undertake any relevant training and/or professional development as required

Any other tasks as reasonably requested by Head of Department/supervisor

Hours : 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday
Based at Mathew Street, Liverpool City Centre

  • Operating switchboard and multiple incoming call services
  • Ensuring accurate messages are passed on to the correct person
  • Greeting clients and managing clients in reception area
  • Receiving monies and providing receipts to clients
  • Organise & log internal and external post (Royal Mail, DX and Deliveries)
  • Distribution of faxes and messages
  • Routine administration tasks and archiving storage
  • Recording of employee attendance and absence
  • Scanning and attaching post & documents to legal system

Clinical Negligence Solicitor

Role Overview

The Clinical Negligence team is seeking a motivated and ambitious Clinical Negligence Solicitor to handle a challenging yet rewarding caseload of claimant clinical negligence work. The role is based in the Firm’s Penny Lane office in Liverpool.

You will be responsible for representing healthcare clients in complex clinical negligence cases. You will play a pivotal role in providing the best possible outcomes for clients.

In line with the continued success of the Clinical Negligence team, the firm is looking for an experienced, ambitious Clinical Negligence Solicitor.

The team deals with a wealth of instructions up to and including matters valued in the multi-millions.

You should boast demonstrable experience in managing Clinical Negligence claims from instruction to completion.

The ideal applicant

The role is suited to someone who already has experience working in a Clinical Negligence team. The ideal candidate will also:

  • Minimum of 5 years PQE in Clinical Negligence
  • Proven experience handling complex, high-value cases
  • Strong knowledge of clinical negligence law and litigation procedures.
  • Excellent research and communication skills.

  • Professional pro-active approach, strong client care skills and a sensitive and sympathetic understanding of clients’ needs
  • Responsible for all aspects of Clinical Negligence work and on occasions, where appropriate providing technical expertise and guidance to other team members
  • Ability to manage appropriate caseload types and complexities
  • Assisting with casework including dealing with a range of Clinical Negligence cases that have been issued at court. including excellent understanding of the Civil Procedure Rules and protocols
  • Attending clients, taking instructions and preparing cases
  • Dealing with correspondence
  • Maintaining accurate time costing procedures
