Home / Our Team /  Richard Malloy Richard Malloy Head of Clinical Negligence Contact info E : rmalloy@gadlegal.co.uk T : 0151 733 3353 Liverpool, Penny Lane View Profile Richard joined the firm in 2007 and is a highly experienced solicitor with close to 20 years’experience representing victims of medical negligence. Over the course of his career, he hasrecovered tens of millions of pounds in compensation for clients whose lives have beendevastated by failings in medical care. Richard is regularly instructed in catastrophic injury claims, acting for children who have suffered severe injuries at or around birth resulting in profound disabilities and complex, lifelong care needs. He also represents adults who have sustained serious injuries due to surgical errors, hospital delays, and failures to correctly interpret or act upon medical results and scans—often leaving them unable to work and requiring lifelong support. He has successfully concluded hundreds of claims against NHS and private hospitals, as well as General Practitioners, dentists, and opticians. Richard understands that clients are often seeking more than compensation. Many want clear answers about what went wrong, accountability where appropriate, and reassurance about what the future holds following life-changing injuries. He is known for his compassionate approach and his determination to secure the best possible outcomes for his clients and their families. In catastrophic injury cases, Richard works closely with a multidisciplinary team of experts, including occupational therapists, physiotherapists, assistive technology specialists, case managers, architects, and specialist support workers. This enables him to put in place—at the earliest opportunity—comprehensive care, therapy, and accommodation packages. These arrangements are vital not only for injured clients, but also for their families, who have often assumed the role of full-time carers. For new enquiries please contact Richard on 0151 522 5781. Interim payments enabled a commercial surrogacy arrangement in California, and the claimant’s first child was born prior to final settlement. Hypoxic brain injury and cerebral palsy caused by negligent post-birth treatment, resulting in the need for adapted accommodation, intensive therapy, and 24-hour care for life. Failures in labour management, CTG interpretation, and lack of escalation to senior staff, leading to hypoxic brain injury and the requirement for lifelong 2-to-1 care. £1.5 million settlement for delayed diagnosis of a scaphoid fracture, leading to multiple surgeries, permanent symptoms, and a significant impact on the claimant’s ability to work. £1.2 million settlement for a claimant who developed a bowel obstruction and sepsis during pregnancy after repeated concerns were ignored by doctors and midwives. £925,000 settlement following an avoidable bile duct injury caused by surgical negligence, resulting in a debilitating incisional hernia. Other Experience In addition to individual claims, Richard has successfully represented multiple clients injured as a result of treatment provided by Dr George Rowlands, a uro-gynaecologist, including cases involving misdiagnosis, unnecessary or incorrect treatment, and failures in aftercare. He has also been instructed in high-profile medical product group actions, including claims relating to failed metal-on-metal implants. Richard Malloy has delivered outstanding service from the moment the case was taken over to the aftercare after settlement. One of his clients was injured at work whilst lifting a heavy cage using an electronic hoist. As the cage reached the top of a shaft, the client was required to lean over to pull the cage in. As he did so, one of the hooks gave way under the weight of the cage and the client was pulled away from the platform, although he managed to keep his feet on it. As the cage swung out he suffered an injury to his shoulder. Although he managed to let go of the cage and regain his balance without falling, he also suffered from shock. The client thought his employer was to blame for his accident because they failed to provide suitable work equipment or a safe system of work. He instructed Ian to help him make a claim for damages. I would have no hesitation in recommending Jonathan Abrams and his colleagues in relation to preparing and negotiating a Commercial contract. Thank you Jonathan for your diligence and comprehensive advice on our US joint venture agreement. Your involvement really helped our negotiations. I would recommend GAD and in particular Jonathan Abrams in the Commercial department. Not only did he and his colleagues help us with a few Management and Board problems, but they also helped us to buy another business. They are not cheap, but then again, some of the other quotes we had from similar West End law firms were crazy. They were clear on their fees, gave a Fixed Fee, which they honoured despite the deal taking longer than we thought, and ensured that we were operating within our budget at all times. They also understood the nature of our industry. I have been working with Jonathan since 2012 when our company bought out a competitor. Since then, we have grown 3-fold and all with the counsel and advice of Jonathan and his colleagues in the Commercial Property department and their litigation, when we have had a few small disputes along the way. I have always trusted our business in their hands. Jonathan Abrams has been helpful in guiding us through our US incorporation process in Delaware from the UK. We would recommend him and Gregory Abrams Davidson. Jonathan was invaluable in resolving our Intellectual Property dispute to our satisfaction, ensuring that the people who were blatantly infringing our brand and goodwill were stopped in their tracks.
