A lot of concern has recently mounted in respect of the Pinnacle hip replacement which is manufactured by Depuy. This implant is still on sale and has not been subject to a recall.
Evidence suggests that like the DePuy ASR, the Depuy Pinnacle has a higher than normal revision rate as a result of metal debris. The newsnight/BMJ investigation (referred to above) discovered that DePuy altered the design of the Pinnacle implant without any clinical trials being conducted. Some experts believe that the design of the Pinnacle implant is responsible for the high levels of metal debris that is found in patient’s blood.
