Gregory Abrams Davidson Solicitors recover damages for a child injured as a result of a poorly performed private circumcision.

Facts of the case

Gregory Abrams Davidson Solicitors represented a child in relation to a claim against a doctor who performed a private circumcision which resulted in a poor outcome and the need for a second procedure.

Our client was 5 years old at the time of the private circumcision.

It was alleged that there had been inadequate anaesthetic during and after the procedure and that our client was subsequently discharged home without monitoring. Our client suffered from bleeding and swelling and had to be taken to the Royal Children’s Hospital NHS Trust on 6 November 2007.

Additionally, the cosmetic result of the procedure was unacceptable. The excision was not symmetrical, one side clearly having been resected but the other appeared to have excess skin remaining. Consequently, our client had to undergo corrective surgery.

After obtaining independent medical evidence it was alleged that the circumcision was performed negligently necessitating the need for a second procedure at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.

Gregory Abrams Davidson Solicitors obtained reports from both a GP specialising in circumcisions and a Consultant Paediatric Surgeon who again specialised in circumcision procedures.

A formal letter of claim was sent to the Defendant.

Following negotiations, a settlement was negotiated with the private doctor’s insurers.
