GREGORY ABRAMS DAVIDSON SOLICITORS
For you, for business, for life.
An Oldham company has been fined £10,000 plus costs following prosecution by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) after they discovered cracked socket casings, exposed conductors and live wires.
A subsequent HSE inspection revealed that the company had failed to act on earlier warnings about the dangerous electrics.
The HSE is Britain’s national regulator for workplace health and safety. It’s duties include inspecting workplaces and issuing improvement notices if necessary, which must be taken seriously. This case shows that if companies fail to comply with notices the HSE will look to prosecute.
The HSE report that they are informed of around 1,000 electrical accidents at work every year. Of those accidents, sadly around 25 people die every year.
In addition to the role of the HSE there are a number of Acts and Regulations which are in place to protect employees. It is the employer’s responsibility to ensure the safety of all of their employees whilst at work. If you have suffered any type of accident at work we at Gregory Abrams Davidson Solicitors can advise you.
