Miraculous Escape - Sentencing

We reported horrfic details on 20 July of a worker who was described to have miraculously cheated death when he was involved in an accident at work.

The worker suffered terrible injuries when he was dragged through a gap just 125mm wide, the size of a CD case.

Sentences have now been handed down.

At the trial on 2 June 2011 the worker’s employer was found to have breached Section 2(1) of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 and they have now been fined £45,000.

The company who supplied the machinery was found to have breached Section 6(1)(a) of the Act and have been fined £30,000.

 Speaking after the hearing the injured worker said;

 “What matters most is that the industry learns from my experience. My life has changed forever and no matter how well I recover from my physical injuries I will still have the psychological impact of the accident hanging over me. I hope my case highlights the dangers posed by not following health and safety regulations.”
