Steel Plant Accident

A steel company was fined £50,000 on 13/5/11 as a result of an accident in which an employee lost two fingers and sustained severe burns to his hand.

The employee was operating machinery at his employer’s plant when his hand got caught in the machine’s rollers.

A Health and Safety Executive (HSE) investigation concluded that the accident had been caused by an inadequate system of work and the employer pleaded guilty to breaching Section 2(1) of the Health & Safety at Work etc. Act 1974.

It is the duty of employers to properly risk assess all tasks which employees are to undertake, and if necessary to implement safer alternatives. If not, the consequences of a dangerous system of work can be devastating.

If you have been injured as a result of an accident at work, please contact Gregory Abrams Davidson Solicitors on the above number for advice.
