Too Many Women Neglected During Labour

The Daily Telegraph recently reported that more than one in five women are being left alone during labour and birth. This puts both mother and baby at high risk.

The National Childbirth Trust’s poll of more than 1,200 first time mothers revealed that 42 per cent of mothers said that there were not enough midwifes to care for them, compared with 33 per cent when the question was posed in 2000. The Royal College of Midwives have now called for 3,000 more midwives in order to cope with the increased birth rate. However, this does not sit well with recent reports that tens of thousands of NHS jobs are to be cut.

The specialised medical negligence department at Gregory Abrams Davidson represent many clients who have sustained injuries at birth or in labour. This includes not only injuries to the mother but also damage to the newborn baby. If you or somebody you know has been affected by complications during childbirth please do not hesitate to contact a member of our dedicated team on 0151 733 3353 or 020 8209 0166. Alternatively, you can email us at [email protected]
